Still hungry after eating a meal? Wait 10 or 15 minutes for the food to go down - you may find you don't need seconds after all.

 

Change your snacks

Snacking is OK - if you choose the right snacks. Now's the time to swap sweets and chocolate for easy-to-eat healthy treats like raisins, grapes, and pineapple pieces.

 

Watch the salt

Too much salt can cause water retention - causing you to hold onto extra pounds. Avoid salty snacks and try not to add too much when cooking.

 

Stay hydrated

It's even more important in summer when the weather's hot. Try to drink at least two litres a day. Your fluid intake can include tea, coffee and low-cal drinks, but go easy on the caffeinated drinks, which can dehydrate you in the long run.

 

Don't skip meals

Never miss meals - especially breakfast. Nutritious, filling meals keep you going and help you resist snacking or filling up on the wrong foods because you're starving!

 

Enjoy eating

Learn to take your time over your food, chewing it more and really savouring the flavours and textures of what you're eating.

 

Plate it!

When you order fast food, take it home and put it on a plate. You might be surprised at how full the plate looks and order smaller sizes next time.
