The basics

Eating healthily shouldn't be complicated. The main thing is to avoid foods that are high in fat, like fried foods. Here are some simple changes you can make to eat healthier and lose weight:

  • try to eat plenty of fruit, vegetables and foods with lots of fibre; wholewheat bread and pasta are lower in fat and have more fibre, which will fill you up for longer
  • don't skip breakfast! You’ll only be hungry later and more likely to snack on fatty food
  • drink plenty of water through the day - it helps you to feel full (lots of people mistake thirst for hunger)
  • aim to eat three meals a day and snack on fresh fruit or low fat snacks if you're hungry between meals
  • go for low fat options when you can: like low fat cheese and yoghurt, skimmed milk or diet soft drinks (which have less sugar)
  • grill food instead of frying it when you can. If you do fry food, use a little stock instead of oil to stop it sticking
  • cut down on alcohol which can be quite calorific
  • watch your portion sizes; try using a smaller plate so you can still fill it up and not feel deprived
  • set a reminder on your mobile to remind you to take your Adios regularly, before meals
